BOOK REVIEW: WHERE HAS OPRAH TAKEN US?

“Where Has Oprah Taken Us” by Stephen Mansfield takes a unique look at Miss Oprah Winfrey.  Speaking indirectly about faith and how she, unbeknown to even Christians, has injected non Judeo-Christian beliefs into our society this book examines the significance of the “O” factor. It is not a tell all derogatory book on Oprah Winfrey, I would not have agreed to read it if it
was. As I was reading I thought of this acronym: One Person Reaching American Homes
because this is who she has become, this is America’s “O” factor..  Miss Winfrey not only reaches but influences thousands if not millions of homes daily, this book explains how it happened.

By looking at Americas’ cultural history and various changes beginning in the 1950’s, Mr. Mansfield explains how Miss Winfrey was able to be positioned in the right places as the right times. As she put her traditional Christian values to the side and grasped the newer though of individualism  (a.k.a. New Age) Oprah Winfrey has served as a “priestess” of sorts in guiding
many away from traditional faiths into older religions repackaged for America.

This is the book that stopped me in my tracks.  As I read it I went from:”Ooooh that makes sense” to “Whoa! That is a scary thought.”  I recommend this book because it is very well written and very informative. I also recommend this book because Christians should be aware of what is happening around them, often what we think is insignificant becomes a little leaven that leavens the whole lump.   Marsha L. I was given this book free by BookSneeze in exchange for a honest review.  My written thoughts are just that.

BOOK REVIEW: NO HE CAN’T

When political truths hurt often it is because of years of not facing the truth. Many former Democrats will share the moment he or she decided to switch parties. Facts and common sense
should go hand in hand with   a person’sideology yet form many this is not the case. More often than not party loyalist, on both sides of the political aisle, ignore facts and defend their candidate
with nothing more than media talking points. The information found in the book “NO HE CAN’T” by Kevin McCullough should not be ignored..

In “NO HE CAN’T:  How Barak Obama is Dismantling Hope and Change” we are given factual information that should allow the reader to see the President for what and who he is. Aware of the President prior to him becoming a Senator, Mr. McCullough reveals not only his first impression but the reasons why he has come to his current conclusions. Divided into four parts with subchapters four areas of importance are covered: the economy, security, the constitution and credibility.

Without a doubt if you consider yourself a conservative you are going to love this book. Already it has drawn the ire of many liberals. The facts found in this book will stand the test of time. I am recommending this book to  everyone, I strongly advise it be read before the 2012 election. If you voted for President Obama but are not sure if you should vote for him again, read this first. If you voted for President Obama and want to vote for him again PLEASE read this book with an open mind. If you have no intentions of voting for President Obama read this book.

In fairness I must share that I am a Conservative which would sway my opinion in favor of presenting a positive view point.  However I would not and do not give positive reviews to books that are written from a spiteful or offensive way. The book is excellently written in organization, justification and content.

This book was given to me free of charge by BookSneeze in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

Dear Pat Robertson

Today I heard on the news that Mr. Pat Robertson says it is OK to get a divorce if the spouse has Alzheimers. So much for: For better for worst and insickness and in health!

Now, to be fair, he is not blanketly endorsing divorce.  It seems his response is to a man who is actively comitting adultery.

Here is the problem.  Women have been married to jerks for years.  Women have put up with men who are lousy with issues of intamcy, work to much and cheat not because she is sick but because he can.  Older women have been caring for their husbands till death do them part for years, where was the honorable Pat Robertson then?  Because her needs were not met should she have divorced him?

When the bible said “the two should become one flesh”Father God did not forget to add unless one spouse becomes imperfect.   A man and a wife united in marriage are one which means- DIVORCE IS NOT AN OPTION.

NEVER is their an excuse for adultery.  Marraige is a promise between the husband and wife AND God.  Sexual needs is not a reason for divorce, if you need companionship get a dog or some fish.  Marsha L. Randolph

BOOK EXCERPT: A PROPSERPOUS NATION

As news comes out regarding poverty in America I just wanted to share with you an excerpt from my upcoming book:

 NO WAYZ TIRED2: NAKE-ed and NOT A$HAMED

A PROSPEROUS NATION*

Do you know what poverty looks like?  Have you ever seen someone who was poor, really poor? In 2009 the average income in Haiti was $1,300 with over two-thirds of the population either unemployed or underemployed. Despite India’s reputation for being a poor nation it is doing
better with an average income of $3,100 (2009)and a 10.7 % unemployment rate.   According to data found on infoplease.com in 2003 almost half of Haiti’s population (47 percent) was classified as illiterate compared to India’s 39% (based on 2005 data).

In 2009 the average income in the United States was $39,000; the current (2011) unemployment rate is around nine (9) percent. Many of Americas poor have income tax refunds three times greater than many in India make in a year. If you are one of the fourteen percent of Americans who live in poverty your life is still better than what our neighbors in Haiti endure.

Most Americans receive more money in food stamps than those in India receive as an annual income. It is easier to access and receive free food from various organizations within the borders of the U. S. than it is in Haiti. Michelle Obama is correct in pointing out the problems with obesity in this nation. The problem, however, is not the number of calories in a Big Mac or in the availability of salads in schools; it is the apathy that surrounds multiple generations who choose to wait for government handouts and not assume personal responsibility for their life.

According to Census (2005-2009) records 67 percent of Americans live in homes they own
while 33 percent rent. Within those numbers is a segment of the population who live in low income or subsidized housing. Low income housing, a.k.a. projects, once filled various communities now are slowly being replaced with vouchers that allow a person to rent in the community of choice throughout the country. All of this in order to boost the quality of life for citizens who lack the
ability to obtain housing independently. Have you ever watched a television program that reveals the living quarters of some in third world countries? What a contrast. Many focus on what they do not have or what was lost not what they have. Four percent of American households do not have telephone service which means that ninety-six percent do. Only 9 percent of the households do not have access to a car, truck, or van for private use, though public transportation is available
to all. (Remember: fourteen percent of Americans are considered to live in poverty.) Multi Vehicle households are not rare in the United States; thirty-eight percent have two vehicles and another 20 percent have three or more. There are children in Haiti who do not have shoes. Turn on your
television and eventually you will see some ministry begging for money to build a well so that a group of people will have access to disease free water; while we pay for bottled water because we do not like the disease free tap water so readily available. Visit the poorest of neighborhoods in the United States and you will find homes with: DVD players, microwave ovens, even residents with
cable or satellite service. More than just the middle class and the wealthy own: cell phones, computers and video games; such luxury items in a land of people who complain about what they do not have.
