BOOK REVIEW: HOW SHOULD CHRISTIANS VOTE? by Dr Tony Evans

The political books are coming out faster than most people can read them and most are along party lines or have a political agenda.  Dr. Tony Evans has written a book, “How Should Christians Vote” which is dedicated to answering this very question. It does not matter what your political affiliation is if you consider yourself a believer in the word of God.

This is an important book written at a very important time; it explains why Christians cannot put their faith to the side when choosing political candidates. By sharing bible verses that present biblical principles in relation to such topics as abortion, health care and welfare the reader is given the tools to make the best possible decision when he goes to the voting booth. By explaining the four foundational forms of government (individual, family, church and then civil government) the reader can see how politicians can be a distraction to ones relationship with God.

I found this book, as all of Dr. Evans messages, to be informative, easy to read and understand and timely.  It took me a day to read. I do not believe that a Christian, Democrat or Republican would find this book offensive in anyway though if you are a firm believer in separating your faith from your politics you may find this book difficult to digest.

I recommend this book to all Christians on all sides of the political aisle.

BOOK REVIEW: PRAY FOR ME by Kenneth H Carter Jr.

As I read the ebook format of “Pray for Me”: the Power of Praying for Others  by Kenneth H. Carter Jr.    I could not help but think: “ I need to get a hardcopy of this”. I am very cautious when it comes to people, no matter what their title, telling me how to be a better anything so my guards were up as I began reading. Though I am a lover of learning I prefer to come to my own conclusions, especially when it comes to faith, I am relieved to report “Pray for Me” is not a “how to” but a “why to” guide.

By sharing Old Testament and New Testament examples of  prayer in “Pray for Me” the author allows the individual to grasp how various intercessors used prayer.  Readers are guided to meditate on various concept  through an “Invitation to reflect” this is where a question may be asked or an idea presented without an author given answer.

“A final lesson: where our energies end, God’s power begins.” (location 313 of 115)

I recommend this book to those who consider themselves intercessors as well as those who want to improve their prayer life.  I believe that this book would make an excellent tool for teaching prayer and for me it is a great book for my personal collection.

BOOK REVIEW: HONORING GOD IN RED AND BLUE By Dr. Amy E Black

I have noticed a large number of political books being written from a Christian perspective in the last few months, “Honoring God in Red or Blue” by Dr. Amy E Black is the latest contribution to the group.

Using the bible as the basis for her arguments Dr Black presents the need for Christians to be politically active but not in the Religious right way that has dominated the news.

I appreciated much of the dialogue in the”Honoring god in Red or Blue: Approaching Politics with Humility, Grace and Reason”  yet I stumbled over some of her statements, because though I wanted to agree with all that she said it seemed some of her words seemed to be to much of a compromise with agnostics, and atheist. I totally agree with her when she wrote: “Anytime we begin to talk about a serious topic, it is useful to know where everyone is coming from. We cannot help but bring our own perspectives, life stories, and viewpoints into a discussion.” (ebook location 77 of 2144). However, I have problems when she states: “When we attach the Christian label to things that are not from God, we claim for ourselves an authority that rightfully belongs to God alone.”(ebook location 194 of 2144) Does this mean I should not call myself a “Christian Conservative” because I do?  There were a few other areas in which caused me pause though overall I think this is a book worth reading.

If the reader understands that this is one person’s opinion and grasp onto the main theme of a unified country despite our differences many of the precepts shared can be of value.  Thus, no matter what political party you are affiliated with it is the believer’s responsibility to put God first while respecting the history of the United States of America.

I recommend this book.

BOOK REVIEW: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BIBLE PROPHECY by Max Anders

“What You Need To Know About Bible Prophecy” by Max Anders is a book / workbook which discusses bible prophecy as it relates to the end times. It is 12 chapters- 12 lessons with a commentary on how to use the format for as a bible study series.  Included within its’ 188 pages are discussions on heaven, hell, the rapture and the final judgment.

If you are one who is interested in studying the bible from Genesis to Revelation this is a great tool for topical studies.  I am a firm believer in personal bible study and, through prayer and meditation, individual revelation. To say that one person knows more than the other simply because he or she has written a book is not an opinion I hold to. However, “What You Need To Know About Bible Prophecy” is an excellent book on just that- prophecy and an individual will learn much if he or she were to read this book.

“What You Need To Know About Bible Prophecy” is not a book for people who are interested in the prophetic ministry in which a person will share individual information.  It is a book that will present information in an easy to read easy to understand format that can bring clarity to some of the events of the day.

I recommend this book.
