by Marsha L Randolph The first thing I discovered about “THE SECRETS OF INTERCESSORY PRAYER” by Jack Hayford was the copyright date- 2009; it was previously published as “Praying ForThose You Love” which is a much better title. When I think of intercessory prayer I think of praying for a broad spectrum of people beyond my family as I read this book the primary focus seemed to be on praying for people one knows.
The book is filled with basic concepts of prayer written in a conversational tone. I found the chapter “Praying for Someone You Don’t Want to Pray For” particularly interesting; I have never seen such a topic in other books on prayer. Was it helpful to me? Not really.
If you are a Jack Hayford fan then you will love the book because his writing reflects his preaching, at least what I have seen on television.
For me the entire book was a letdown, I really wanted a more in depth book. However, I am an intercessor ad have read numerous books on prayer and have had numerous discussions on the same subject. If you are just getting into praying for others you can learn a lot from this book. I don’t know why the title was changed but I think “Praying For Those You Love” is a better title.
Though I would recommend this book it is not one I would personally go out and purchase.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for a fair review of which I did.
